Welcome to Makerere University Institute of Psychology

The Institute of Psychology is currently one of the youngest independent units on campus. Although still in its infancy, the Institute offers both undergraduate and postgraduate training in three academic departments and consultancy until i.e. the department of Mental Health and Community Psychology, the department of Organisational and Social Psychology and the OutReach Unit. The Institute is headed by a director,who is charged with academic and administrative leadership. Read more....

Our Focus

The Institute plans to offer valuable,relevant and marketable degree programmes and involve both staff and students in research activities in all branches of psychology. In addition, the Institute will take it upon itself to create a hostile free work environment to all its members. In its endeavor to reach out, the Institute will continue to sensitize the general public on the importance of Psychology and psychological services.Read more about the courses offered here....

In its effort to solve problems using psychological approaches, the Institute will extend psychological services to the University community and the wider public. In its recognition of the growing need for applied psychology and hence the need for well-trained psychologists, the Institute hopes to interest more students in the discipline of psychology. In addition to offering graduate and undergraduate programs and courses, the Institute plans to work with the Ministry of Education to introduce psychology at the Higher School level. Academic excellence and poverty Alleviation are the key broad objectives of the Institute.

With the dedicated staff and facilities offered by the institute, the academic level of education offered is of high standard. The great staff has always worked together with the students to make sure that the best is delivered to the students. Read more about the facilities offered....
